Why choose FUSD Magnet Schools?Magnet Schools provide an academically rigorous curriculum developed around themes designed to interest students and prepare them for their future. Dedicated staff members enhance learning around these interesting themes. Motivated students and active parents create a school environment that values accomplishment and demonstrates school pride. Who is eligible to apply?All students are eligible to apply to a Magnet School. Students living within the FUSD attendance area are given admission priority, but students from neighboring districts may apply to Magnet Schools when space is available. Yokomi Elementary School gives priority admission to the children of downtown employees regardless of their home school district. What is Open Enrollment?Students living within FUSD may apply to attend any school they choose within FUSD through Open Enrollment. Available space at the school determines if a student may be assigned to attend that school. Transportation is not provided by the school district. How do I apply?An application for Magnet Schools is available on this website. Students may apply for both Magnet Schools and Open Enrollment. Every student needs their own application, so you may make copies of the forms as needed for each applicant. Is transportation provided?According to FUSD board policy, transportation for Magnet Schools is determined according to the purposes and enrollment of each program. At some schools, bus transportation is provided at nearby school stops across the city, and at other schools, bus tokens for local transportation are provided. It is necessary to check with each school to determine their transportation policy. No FUSD transportation is provided students attending a non-neighborhood school through Open Enrollment. When is the deadline to apply?All applications are due at student services by or before 5 p.m. on Dec. 1 for priority consideration. Applications will continue to be received after that date and programs that are not full will continue to place students. A new application must be completed for each school year after September 1.
