What Do Social Workers Do?
School Social Workers provide a link between home, school, and the community. School Social Workers promote and support students' academic and social success by providing strength-based services that may include:
- Case Management
- Advocacy for Students, Parents and the School System
- Individual and Group Counseling
- Psycho-Social Assessments
- Home Visits

- Crisis Intervention
- Parent Education
- Referrals to Community Resources
- Facilitating Support Groups
- Staff Development

- Maximize Educational Opportunities
- Develop Problem-Solving and Decision Making Skills
- Resolve Conflicts
- Build Self-Esteem
- Establish Healthy Relationships

- Actively Participate in their Children's Education
- Identify Environmental Factors Which Inhibit Learning
- Meet the Social and Emotional Needs of their Children
- Utilize School and Community Resources

Where Are School Social Workers Located?
- There are school social workers placed at 11 of the districts Middle Schools - Ahwahnee, Cooper, Fort Miller, Kings Canyon, Scandinavian, Sequoia, Tehipite, Terronez, Tioga, Wawona and Yosemite.
- They also work with the corresponding elementary feeder schools.
