The project requires the completion of four short analytical assignments. Each of the following parts must be completed and turned in on the required due date. No partial assignments or late work will be accepted. Each part of the written project must represent different time periods. All work must be typed. (Double space or space and a half; size 12 font).

 

1. Biographical sketch: Select a historical figure from 1700 to the present. Include his/her dates and location of birth, early education and training. Give a brief overview of the major developments or historical trends that were popular or influential during your subjects life-time. Finally, highlight any major accomplishments or impact your subject had on World History. (2-3 pages)

 

2. Topical Analysis: From the supplied list of topics, select one of interest and include the following: a brief background to the topic, a discussion of the topic, including participants, events of importance and outcomes. Finally include a discussion of the historical significance and the impact the topic had on the development of either Western Civilization or World History. (2-3 pages)

 

3. Movie Critique: From the supplied list of movies, select one film of interest and complete the Modern World History Movie Critique. Note: The instructor has not viewed every film listed and some films may contain objectionable material. You may substitute any historical film not listed, with approval of the instructor. (1-2 pages)

 

4. Visual Collage: Based on the three written portions of the project, put together a collage of either a single over-arching theme, concept, or idea, or three seperate ideas as represented by each of the different parts of the project. The visual may include, pictures, words, symbols or any other media which will represent your ideas. The collage should be completed on a standard 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. In addition, include an explanation of the symbols, pictures, and/or words used in your collage as well as the theme you have selected and how it relates to the project. The explanation should be no more than one page.

 

5. Work Cited List: All projects must include a work cited list. A minimum of three sources must accompany this project. Refer to the examples regarding format.
