BHS Law & Social Justice Pathway wins Liberty Bell Award from Fresno County Bar Associationlaw

The Fresno County Bar Association awarded its annual Liberty Bell Award to Bullard High School’s Law and Social Justice Pathway, a 4-year-old magnet program that provides students with real-world experiences in the legal field. The Liberty Bell Award is given to an organization or member of the community going above and beyond to improve the justice system through work in the community, said Fresno County Bar Association historian Howard Watkins.

The program, as well as law magnet coordinator Roy Verduzco, was recognized at a luncheon this week. The law pathway will reach a significant milestone this year with the graduation in June of its first class of seniors. More than 50 seniors will graduate with a cord of distinction for their involvement in the law pathway. The program offers students a variety of experiences in law and related careers, including job shadowing, guest speakers, field trips, internships, Day in the Law Career Faire and community service. Verduzco said that Bullard students performed more than 20,000 hours of community service this year, with much of that service performed by law pathway students.

The program features a campus courtroom, one of only six in the state on a public high school campus. Bullard’s Youth Court has had a dramatic increase in student juror participation, with more than 45 students trained to serve as jurors for cases. Superior Court Judge Gary Hoff presides over the Youth Court.

Weekly Teleparent Message

Sunday, May 20:

We are now in the final four weeks of the school year, and it is of utmost importance that students remain focused on academic achievement in an effort to obtain the best grades possible for this semester.  Fourth quarter progress reports were sent home with students on Friday.  Please take time to review the progress report with your son or daughter and encourage them to finish the school year strong.

Advanced Placement testing has finished with nearly 550 Bullard HS students taking more than 900 tests.  Students who pass the tests will receive college credit for their achievement in our most rigorous and challenging courses.

Here a few special dates to remember as we approach the end of the school year:  Our graduation ceremony will be held on Monday, June 11th, at 8:00 PM in the Save Mart Center.  Final exams for students in grades 9 to 11 will be held on June 12th, 13th, and 14th with a special bell schedule.  Also, we will have an early release day this Thursday, May 24th, where students will be released at 1:15 PM.

I look forward to the last few weeks of our school year.  Please contact us if we can be of any assistance.
