The Marketing Academy has been
at Fresno High since 1990. There are two classes each of sophomores,
juniors, and seniors with a total enrollment of 125. There are five teachers involved in the Academy. Currently, each
new sophomore group is made up of two classes. The Academy model is
designed to accommodate approximately 125 students, but similar
strategies can be used to accommodate more.
Students
enter the Marketing Academy as a sophomore, pledging to complete a
three-year commitment. Each student is enrolled in Marketing, along
with Science, English, Math, and Social Studies.
This
school-within-a-school design is perhaps the most unique offering of
the Marketing Academy. Academy teachers work together to monitor the
students who they share. Various factors determine how many Academy
classes each student will have. Most sophomores have four Academy
classes; juniors have three, and seniors three. Students are
encouraged to take courses which will prepare them for college.
The Marketing Academy Has:
Curriculum
focused on marketing as an elective and is teamed with English,
science and social science
A Voluntary Student
selection process that identifies ninth graders interested in
joining as a sophomore
A Team of Teachers
Who work together to provide an enhanced, family-like learning
environment
Motivational Activities
with business partners to encourage academic and occupational
preparation, such as job shadowing and employment opportunities,
enhanced curriculum, classroom speakers, professional image
development, and field trips |
