What is the ELAC?

The ELAC is a committee formed to advise the school on programs for LEP (Limited English Proficient) students.

Who can serve on the ELAC?

The ELAC may be comprised of LEP parents, non LEP parents, and school site staff which are ALL elected by LEP parents.

What is the purpose of ELAC?

The purpose of the ELAC is to provide opportunities for parents to give advice and assist the school in the decision making process concerning programs for Limited English Proficient (LEP)students. It is the responsibility of the ELAC to keep all LEP parents informed.

What are the responsibilities of the ELAC?

 

 

The ELAC has four main responsibilities as outlined by the California State Department of Education.

  1. The ELAC will conduct a school needs assessment for English language learner.
  2. The ELAC will advise in the development and implementation of the school plan for English language learners submitted to the local board of education.
  3. The ELAC will review the school’s language census(R30) in developing the school’s plan for English language learners.
  4. The ELAC will help make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance.

How can parents help at school?

 

 

Parents can help at school by...

  • participating in school functions
  • attending ELAC, SSC, PTA, parent/teacher conferences, back to school night, open house
  • helping in the classroom, field trips
  • having your child attend school everyday

How can parents help at home?

Parents can help at home by...

  • providing a quiet place for your child to do their homework
  • assisting your child as needed with school work
  • reading to your child in the primary language/English, take your child to the library
  • sharing your experiences in life with your child
