Tardies & Absences

It is important to be in class, be prepared and on time. Work missed is allowed to be made up at the discretion and convenience of the teacher. If a student is late to school because of having overslept, missed the bus, or has car trouble--report directly to class. These are unexcused tardies, and the teacher will issue a detention slip for 1/2 hour detention. If a student is late to school because of a medical appointment, illness, or family emergency-report to the Attendance Office for an excused clearance slip. Parent/guardian verification is required.

Students who are consistently tardy will be subject to:

  • Detention
  • Saturday School
  • Community Service (after school work program)
  • Suspension

If a student leaves the campus without a PERMIT TO LEAVE from the Attendance Office, clearance will not be accepted. Absences are unexcused-parent clearance is not accepted after the absence.

Because of the need to address the excessive number of tardies the students are accumulating, it has become necessary to develop an on going intervention strategy. The strategy implemented is a "Tardy Sweep" policy that is used at the beginning of each period.

ANY STUDENT OUT OF CLASS WITHOUT AN AUTHORIZED PASS WILL BE SUBJECT TO DISCIPLINARY ACTION!

The dismissal pass must be signed by the doctor, parent, or guardian and given to the attendance office when the student returns to school.
