Health Services

  • The Nurse's Office is located in the Fresno High Administration Building.

  • Students must report to class and request a yellow transfer slip from class to the nurse's office. In an emergency a student may be admitted by the nurse without the yellow transfer slip. If students are too ill to be in a classroom, a parent or guardian a parent will be contacted and the student will be sent home. Repeated visits to the nurse's office will result in a medical referral so that the problem may be resolved.

  • The school nurse may make home visits during the day. A sign on the Nurse's Office door will notify you if she is out of the office; report immediately to the Vice Principal or Attendance Office. DO NOT LEAVE THE SCHOOL WITHOUT OFFICE PERMISSION.

  • Students with medical excuses from physical education must be cleared by the nurse before program changes are made. Parents may request a period of exemption from P.E. not to exceed three days. For longer periods of time, the student shall be referred to the nurse. A medical excuse from a physician may be requested.

  • Accidents involving injuries to students at school are to be reported to the nurse for first aid and referral for medical care if necessary. An accident report form must be completed by the teacher and forwarded by the nurse. Insurance papers are made out for the students who carry school insurance if medical treatment is needed.

  • Students and parents are encouraged to be alert for any signs of communicable disease, such as red eyes or rash, and are advised to keep the student at home until well or upon obtaining a release from the physician. This is for the protection of all students and staff.

  • Medication cannot be given at school without a written note from both the physician and parent. The only medication a student may carry is that needed for bee sting allergies and inhalers for asthma.

  • Students with chronic absences due to illness will be contacted by the school nurse to assist the student in obtaining medical help so that normal attendance may be resumed or Home Instruction application. Pregnancy in itself does not qualify for Home Instruction or Independent study unless there is medical complication.

However, they make it available, strictly as a service, at minimum rates and recommend that parents take advantage of the opportunity to secure excellent medical coverage. Insurance applications are distributed when students pick up their class schedules. FHS & FUSD do not cover loss of personal property
